Summer Reading Program
June and July 2008

 

Registration Begins June 2!!!

                             

The Goal!
The goal for the library’s summer reading program is to instill a love of reading in our participants and to improve reading skills. We encourage children to read during the summer months by awarding prizes for every five books read up to our program goal of 20. Each title read will be recorded on a reading record kept at the library until the end of July.

 
Prizes for Reading!
• Preschool through grade 7 are encouraged to participate
• PRIZES for every five books read (up to 20) AND for the most books read during June and July
• Registration needed to track reading.

 
Tuesday Talent!
A series of weekly programs and activities for all ages of children.  Usually held on Tuesday, unless otherwise noted and free and open to everyone!
June 10, 2pm Chef Roberto's Magical Cooking Show
A zany look at the world of cooking, unbelievable magic and terrific books!
June 17, 2pm Let's Make Lunch
Love to cook? A fun-filled activity where the participants create and serve a meal together.
June 24, 2pm K-9 Officer Scott Koennicke & Zorro, Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department
Meet Zorr and find out how he helps the Department.
June 25, 1pm (Wednesday) Holly Ristau, Storyteller
Great stories to mesmerize and entertain!  funded by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council through a Minnesota Legislative appropriation.
July 1 No Program This Week
July 8, 2pm Music Around the World by Roger Tweiten -- A one-of-a-kind collection of musical instruments from around the world.
July 15, 2pm Prairie Wetlands Learning Center
July 22, 2pm Patrick Mader, Author of Opa and Oma
Hear the book and see how the illustrations are created!
July 29, 2pm Red River Valley ZooMobile
Real, live animals from the Zoo!!--On a bus!!


 

Lunch Bunch Book Clubs!
-Bring your own bag lunch-Cookies & lemonade provided
-Club meets weekly during June and July
-Pre-registration necessary
 
3rd & 4th Grade Club (Tuesdays at noon)
How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell.
10-year-old Billy is facing the most revolting bet of his life: to eat 15 worms in 15 days. Luckily his friends are willing to help.
 
5th & 6th Grade Club (Wednesdays at noon)
Charley & the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
Charlie found a golden ticket and is one of five lucky winners to be allowed to tour reclusive Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Life will never be the same again!
 
7th & 8th Grade Club (Thursdays at noon)
Call of the Wild by Jack London.
The adventures of loyal dog Buck, stolen from his comfortable life and sold into the life of an Alaskan sled dog.
