Police Department • Crime Prevention Tips

   
1. Beware of Fraud Beware of Fraud: Be alert to crooked callers and con artists. Don't fall for their scams. It might help to know they usually use tactics like this:
• Watch out when you are pressured to act quickly.
• Watch out if someone uses persuasive language and persistence to get you to trust them. 
• Watch out when a salesperson is reluctant to provide written materials about their products or company.
2. Car Theft Car Theft: Make sure after you park your vehicle that you lock all doors, and roll up all windows. Take the time to place valuable in your trunk or out of site.
3. Home Safety Home Safety: Remember to have deadbolts on all exterior doors. It is important that when you leave on a trip to make sure that your mail is stopped or that you have a friend or neighbor pick up your mail. Another good idea is to have a timer on lamps within the house that can turn on lights when you are gone.
4. Theft Prevention Theft Prevention: It is always a good idea, to record serial, & model numbers along with a brief description of your property. Remember to keep this list in a safe place. Serial numbers assist us in recovering and returning your property to you.
5. Bike Theft Prevention Bike Theft Prevention: Make sure you write down your serial number, model number, and make of your bike. If you register your bike with the Police Department you will be given a license number and we record this information for you. Bike license is a $1 fee. When you park your bike make sure you lock your bike up with a bike chain, or bike lock of some type. When riding your bike make sure you wear a helmet and obey the laws at all times. Ride safely!
6. Internet Safety Advice for Parents Internet Safety Advice for Parents: Here are several signs to watch for to determine if your child may be at risk on the internet.
A. Your child spends large amounts of time on the internet, especially at night.
B. You find pornography on your child's computer.
C. Your child is receiving emails from men you don't know or is making phone calls to numbers you don't know.
D. Your child receives packages or gifts from people you don't know.
E. Your child quickly turns off the monitor or will not allow you to see what they are doing on the computer.
F. Your child becomes withdrawn from the family.
Be involved with your child and ask questions in regards to what they look at and who they talk to on the internet. If you suspect some suspicious activities, check into it. For more information click on the FBI logo below.
