The Perham Beautification Committee has been meeting for the past couple months, discussing ways to help beautify and unify Perham’s retail district.  The committee consists of people from the City, the Chamber and the business community.
The goal of the committee is to utilize beautification items (such as decorative lighting, banners, flowers, greenery, etc.) to help unify Perham’s three retail areas (Main Street, 3rd Ave and South district) into one L-shaped retail community.

Items that have been discussed have included:
n      Christmas decorations to be hung from light poles
n      Christmas lights to be hung in the decorative curbside trees
n      Decorative theme lights such as the antique lights downtown
n      Flower pots and/or shrubs to be located adjacent to businesses
n      Banners that could be hung from light poles on the retail corridors
You are invited and encouraged to attend, the next Committee meeting. It will take place Friday, April 11th at 10 a.m. in Perham City Hall.

Text Box: What’s Cookin’ At Your Library?

Studies show that students who don’t read over the summer are less prepared for school success in the fall. The Perham Area Public Library makes summer a piece of cake with the 2008 summer reading program Look What’s Cookin’ At Your Library. The library will offer special weekly programs, book clubs for children, and reading incentives intended to stir things up all summer long!  The program will run from June 2 through July 31.  Get cookin’ and prepare for the summer fun!  More information on the programs and activities will be available in May on the library’s website: www.perham.lib.mn.us.

Text Box: Water Supply Improvements

In September 2007 the City had Ulteig Engineers prepared a report to evaluate Perham’s municipal water supply system.  The report was reviewed by the Council and they approved a project to construct a second water tower and two new wells. The site of these improvements will be the south east corner of Arvig Park.
The Minnesota Department of Health recommends water storage for a minimum of one day’s average water usage.  In 2007 the average daily usage was approximately 1.12 million gallons.  The current tower holds 0.5 million gallons of water and the new tower will be designed to hold 1.0 million gallons bringing the total capacity to 1.5 million gallons of storage.  Some clearing of trees will be required to install the tower.
The wells are scheduled for construction in 2008, but the tower will take longer to construct and is scheduled to be completed by October 2009.
