RESOLUTION NO. 2006 - 16 RESOLUTION AFFIRMING ACTIVITY-FRIENDLY COMMITMENTS WHEREAS, the first criteria listed on the Governor’s Fit City Application is stated as: “The City must adopt a resolution affirming fit-friendly commitments by community leaders and elected officials”; and WHEREAS, Active Living is a way of life that integrates physical activity into daily routines. The goal is to accumulate at least 30 minutes of activity each day. Individuals may do this in a variety of ways such as walking or bicycling for transportation, exercise or pleasure; playing in the park; working in the yard; taking the stairs; and using recreation facilities; and WHEREAS, the City of Perham affirms activity-friendly commitments such as: - Develop a cohesive system of parks and trails, incorporating accessible neighborhood parks. - Establish processes to assess and improve existing local active living infrastructure. - Require that neighborhood streets be designed with pedestrians and bicyclists in mind. - Support recreation programs that encourage active living. - Ensure that physical activity facilities (youth/senior centers, trails, etc.) are accessible and affordable. - Locate schools in walkable neighborhoods or create walkable routes to existing schools. - Increase measures for pedestrian and bicyclist safety. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Perham is committed to providing an activity friendly community to its residents. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby authorizes the application for The Governor’s Fit City Program.
